Driver of Tractor Trailer Died in Douglas County

When we turn on the news in the morning, we’re used to hearing about tragedies that took place while we were sleeping. For people in Douglas County, this Sunday morning was no different. At about 3 a.m. on September 22, a tractor trailer driving down Interstate-20 crashed into a vehicle owned by the Douglas County Fire Department. The ladder truck was parked in the slow lane.   Unfortunately, the driver of the tractor trailer died at the scene. The road was closed for about 6 hours following the accident. The investigation is ongoing and, so far, no cause of the accident has been revealed.

Usually, when truck accident lawyers read about these accidents, they involve tractor trailers and other passenger vehicles. It’s very rare to hear about a commercial vehicle crashing into a parked car. And, for that car to be owned by the county is even more interesting.

The name of the truck driver who was killed has not yet been released. The family probably wasn’t yet notified given the time of day the crash took place. We can only imagine what they’re going through at this moment.

The family of the deceased may very well consult with a truck accident attorney in Atlanta. Depending on the cause of the accident, they may have a claim for wrongful death. There will be lots of questions that need to be answered here. For example – why was a ladder truck parked on the side of the road in the middle of the night?

Investigators did confirm that the fire department had been responding to an earlier accident. However, there’s no indication as to what kind of warnings the department gave other motorists. Only time will tell as to whether or not the County may be held liable in this crash.
